1- Have a morning routine

A morning routine is waking up every day on time without hitting the snooze button to tackling the most difficult tasks of the day before checking your mail or going to the office. Your brain works faster in the morning, and it can absorb information much quicker than later in the day.

Having a morning routine can pay dividends if you train your mind to wake up on time every day. To make a routine, you must do it for at least 30 days until it solidifies in your mind. There is no specific time to wake up in the morning as long as it is within a reasonable time before going to work or finishing the tasks you want to do. Although it is true that the most successful people, such as Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, wake up as early as 3:45 AM, you do not have to wake up that early. However, you do have to plan your morning routine that best serve your situation.

Waking up on time requires giving yourself enough sleep to recover and wake up on time. Each person requires a certain amount of sleeping hours to have the necessary sleeping cycles to recover. On average, people need about 6-8 hours for their minds to be fully functional in the morning. You can find the optimal amount of sleeping hours for you by experimenting. Having a good sleep is the first step to having a morning routine.

2- Use a daily planner

Having a daily planner ensures that you are taking advantage of the day by writing things down. You can get a daily planner from anywhere, and you can also create your own daily planner; the important thing is that it outlines what you are going to do throughout the day.

It is essential to do this task early in the day. In general, we can only do a limited amount of tasks a day if you factor in the time you need to eat, sleep, cook, and do daily chores. Those small tasks can eat up the day and leave you with little time to do productive things. Therefore, it is crucial to understand the time required for those tasks by putting them on your daily planner in the morning.

You have more chances of finishing your tasks if you write them down. On average, it is possible to finish up to 5 tasks a day, given that you provide a minimum of 1.5 hours for each task. It is also essential to understand your limit and the time you take to finish each task. That is what the daily planner will help you to do. Try to experiment with the number of tasks you can do in a day and see the most balanced solution for you.

3- Make few decisions a day as possible

This one might sound counter-productive, but making few decisions throughout the day can reduce wasted time occupying your brain with needless decisions that have zero impact on productivity. For example, concerning yourself of what you should eat today, instead of planning your meals for the whole week in one day, choose whether to workout today where you should plan to work out a specific number of times a week.

Such decisions will deprive you of your productivity by second-guessing yourself when you should be focusing on doing the task itself. Spending less time making decisions and focusing on making the decisions will make you ten times more productive. If you manage to eliminate the decision making aspect in your life, you are skipping the procrastination and laziness and jumping straight to action.

You can eliminate the number of decisions you make by planning things and taking the choice part out of the equation. For example, reading one hour a day or training every day for 30 minutes should not be a decision but an action that you must do. Therefore, you have already told yourself to do a specific routine and eliminated the decision making aspect.

Sometimes, you may not feel like doing that task, so you must sometimes force yourself to solidify the habit. If you repeat the same task enough times, you train your brain to subconsciously respond to do the task without the need to force yourself to do it.

Finally, making few quality decisions can positively impact your success. Jeff Bezos is famous for making few high-quality decisions.

4- Use your free time to build skills.

Some people chose to use their free time to do a non-productive activities such as consuming media. However, it is okay to do mentally unchallenging activities to take the edge off and relax. But too much of something is not good, and doing too many non-productive activities will impact your growth and the ability to learn something new.

The goal of using your free time to learn and build new skills is to keep your brain occupied and always on alert to advance itself. It takes discipline to train your brain to learn something new every day, but it will certainly equip you with new skills that you can use to your advantage.

Building skills can be taking online courses, reading books or even engaging in social activities. It will keep your brain active and motivate you to make a habit of learning new things every day. Therefore, try to find a time in your day to feed the creative side in you by doing something different that can teach you new skills.
